You can charge whatever price you wish. We recommend that you charge between U.S.$25 to U.S.$40. This money is yours to keep.

No. The OCA Teacher Manual is for your use only. The OCA Teacher Manual may not be loaned, shared, copied, imaged or in any way replicated and transmitted to a third party, in whole or in part, whether in electronic or print form, and this restriction holds in perpetuity. Violation of the foregoing constitutes an infraction of copyright law and is subject to penalty.

Lesson plans are comprised of material from the OCA Student Workbook. How to structure a lesson plan is discussed in the training videos as well as in the OCA Teacher Manual.

What you charge will depend upon what the market will bear. You will probably start by offering a relatively low price just to penetrate the market. Once you have a few students, you can start to increase your price. We recommend that you do not set your price below U.S.$20/hour. Remember that you are a native English speaker and teaching intermediate-to-advanced English using quality material, so your price should appropriately reflect that.

No, you don't. Information on your students is your property. After all, it's your business. You only need to provide us with a student's name if you want us to issue a Certificate of Hours of Study Completed for that student.

No, you will not be an employee of the Online Canadian Academy (OCA). Rather, you'll create your own business, complete with your own logo, marketing material and price structure. You'll also be responsible for finding your own customers (students). We'll give you helpful instruction on all of this in the training videos that you receive. You can represent yourself as being a freelance English teacher registered with the OCA. At no time should you represent yourself as being an employee, director, owner or agent of OCA for the purpose of contractually binding or financially obligating OCA.

You only need a computer and internet connection. We also recommend that you purchase a microphone and, if your laptop speakers are weak, then a headset or AirPods. You will conduct your online classes using a teleconferencing software platform. There are several, but we recommend Zoom. Zoom is free for a one-on-one video meeting and it allows you to share your screen and use a white board - the primary features that you'll need as a teacher.

Of course. Teaching a group is a great way to increase your revenue for the same amount of work, while also giving a discount to each student. This is explained in one of the training videos.

Yes, you can. The OCA Student Workbook provides the formal content structure, but you're free to include your own material as well. For example, you may want to start a class by reading and discussing an interesting article in the news. This might be an especially good idea if the subject is of interest to your student.

No. The OCA Student Workbook and OCA Teacher Manual are yours to keep. Remember that the restriction to not sell or distribute the OCA Teacher Manual continues in perpetuity.

You can. Those large schools typically rely on signed contracts of long duration and that's a deterrent to many students. You, on the other hand, can provide your service with no contracts: students simply pay as they go. The large schools are also inflexible: students don't have much choice regarding the days and times of classes. You can be flexible and determine the best day and time for you and your students. The large schools also try to pack as many students as possible in the class with each student consequently receiving little personal attention. In your one-on-one class, the student receives your complete attention. Finally, teachers of the large schools tend to move through the class material slowly. In your classes, you can move through the material at a pace that is appropriate for your students.

This will depend on the proficieny of your students. However, to give you an idea, with a one-hour VIP class held once per week, it will take you about one year to teach all of the material in the OCA Student Workbook. For a group class, it will take a little longer.

Of course. You are free to construct your course(s) as you wish. After all, it's your business. For example, you may decide to offer Section 3 as a separate course on Professional Business English. You could also divide the chapters in the OCA Student Workbook in order to create two courses: an intermediate-level course and another advanced-level course. It's all up to you.

You will find that it will be difficult to maintain more than 20 active students, especially if most of your classes are VIP meaning just you and the student. The reason is that most students tend to have free time only in the evenings and on Saturday and once you fill up these time slots, you may not have time available for new students. Keep this in mind while you are going through the effort and expense of marketing your services: you only need 20 or so students. Also keep this in mind when you encounter other freelance English teachers in the marketplace: they, too, can handle only about 20 students so that still leaves plenty of students for you.

Yes, but every teacher who teaches the material in the OCA Student Workbook must be registered with the Online Canadian Academy.
